## What is a peptide?

A peptide is a short chain formed from the blocks that build proteins. Insulin is a peptide.

The name peptide describes a substance’s makeup. It cannot tell you what sort of care fits your needs.

Start with a plain question: what health problem is this meant to treat? Then ask for the exact medicine’s name. “Peptide therapy” is too broad to settle that question.

## Is it real, and is it allowed?

The Food and Drug Administration is the US agency that reviews medicines; this guide uses its initials, FDA.

Peptide products belong to several groups as of September 26, 2026: approved drugs, medicines prepared to order and drugs without approval.

### An approved product

Semaglutide’s US products approved by FDA include Ozempic and Wegovy. Tirzepatide’s US products approved by FDA include Mounjaro and Zepbound. This was the position on September 26, 2026.

### A medicine made to order

Compounding prepares medicine for a patient’s own needs, in place of a ready-made drug product.

Medicines prepared to order may be lawful, but FDA has not approved them. This was the position on September 26, 2026.

### A research label

FDA has told some sellers that offering unapproved drugs for human use broke the law, as of September 26, 2026. A “research only” label did not make those sales legal.

## Where does an El Mirage reader begin?

Consider an in-person clinic if you want to talk in the same room, or telehealth if you want a remote visit. Telehealth means care at a distance. A screen visit still needs room for questions.

A licensed health professional’s order for medicine is called a prescription.

As of October 3, 2026, Arizona law requires the health professional to weigh whether remote care fits the patient’s needs.

With either kind of visit, ask who will check your health, which pharmacy will fill any prescription, and whom to contact for help later. If you have a name already, begin with the licence checks.
